From the Levada do Paul to Rabaçal, Madeira-Een wandeling. A walk. Une promenade.

Het weer zag er nogal onheilspellend uit vanuit de bus,
It did not look too good on the way to my walking destination,
Le temps n'avait pas l'air rassurant en route pour la promenade,


maar éénmaal ter plaatse klaarde het uit,

but the skies cleared out,
mais le ciel s'est ouvert,


de levada vormde een blauw lint in het landschap,

the levada was like a blue ribbon,
la levada était comme un ruban bleu,



de kust scheen ver en de oceaan verloor zich in de hemel,
the coast seemed very far and the ocean was losing itself into the sky,

la côte semblait bien loin et l'océan et le ciel se fondaient...


opeens waren de kleuren in het landschap subtropisch...
suddenly the colours of the landscape were subtropical again...

tout à coup les couleurs du paysage devenaient subtropicales de nouveau...


De vallei van Rabaçal was groener dan men zich kan inbeelden,
The valley of Rabaçal is greener than you can ever imagine,

La vallée de Rabaçal est d'un vert irréel,


de poelen zijn schitterende blauw-groene spiegels,
the pools are brilliantly green and blue mirrors,

les flaques d'eau sont des miroirs bleus-verts scintillants,


Het bos van boomheide ziet er onheilspellend uit:
The forest of tree heather looks menacing:

Le bois de bruyère arborescente a l'air menaçant:


Niet te geloven dat men in deze onaangetaste vallei met oorspronkelijk laurierbos een kabelbaan wou aanleggen, Unesco heeft dit project een halt toegeroepen:
Unbelievable that there existed plans to build a cable car in this pristine valley of primieval laurel wood; luckily Unesco has barred this project:

Incroyable qu'on avait projeté de construire un funiculaire au milieu de cette vallée magnifique couverte de forêt de lauriers primitifs:


Een enthousiaste wandelaar naast een levada die bruisend naar beneden stroomt:
This picture is showing me as an enthusiast walker beside a wildly streaming levada:

J'aime bien me promener en pleine nature, ici à côté d'une levada tumultueuse:


Zoals in Zwitserland zijn er ook hier koeien die de weg versperren:

Like in Switzerland the cows are barring the small path:
Comme en Suisse les vaches se trouvent parfois au milieu du sentier:


Deze dame op leeftijd wou van geen wijken weten:
This old lady was showing personality:
Cette dame d'un âge assez avancé faisait preuve de caractère:


En in de late namiddag kwam de mist op en werd de vallei in een waas van mysterie gehuld...
And in the late afternoon the mist came up and the valley was all mystery again...
Et tard dans l'après-midi le brouillard est apparu et la vallée devenait toute mystérieuse...

Wat is de wereld toch mooi! Veelzijdig, kleurrijk, ruw, zacht en heerlijk.
